Richard Widmark was a fabulous actor...able to play a variety of roles quite believably, with characterizations foreign to his own personality. A quiet man, he tapped his depths to play a sadistic killer for his breakthrough role in "Kiss of Death," an American prosecuting attorney in "Judgment at Nuremburg," an army captain who helps Native Americans in "Cheyenne Autumn," a bigot in "No Way Out" and a tough, rule-bending police detective in "Madigan." In his long life, he made over 70 films and numerous TV shows, all the while guarding his privacy and refusing to succumb to the glamour of Hollywood.
