Ricky's Moon is in the 10th house indicating his work is
very important to him. His life revolves around his career. Being in
Pisces it indicates a creative profession in the arts-singing, dancing and
acting are all talents. Mars in Pisces indicates a sensitive, artistic
nature and as it also is in the 10th it shows he's a go-getter and has
drive to succeed. Did he try going into the military? Seems this would
show success in that arena as well. His Sun and Jupiter conjoin in the 6th
for a famous personality; his partnerships serve him well. Sage
benevolently rules this partnership sector. I don't see him having any
relationship problems. Neptune and Mercury in the 6th:this guy is healthy!
And working is his favorite thing to do. Highly creative. But Scorpio on
its cusp makes me wonder if he is really satisfied with what he is doing,
he's burnt-out. Venus in Aquarius in the 8th:good relationship with mom
he's really open-minded. Chiron in Aries-very risky! He's "Risky
Martin"! What are Uranus and Pluto doing together in the 4th?Unusual
family and home life but mother was probably a powerful person if not a
powerful influence. Virgo on the IC indicates good upbringing – parents
very concerned with health and maintaining a non-emotional attitude.
Neptune trines Mars indicating talents through inheritance. Mars opposes
Pluto. He's sometimes frustrated about the image he projects. Venus trines
Saturn he is a rich boy! (Cap is on 6th house cusp) Saturn opposes Neptune
(drug problems?) but Venus sextiles Neptune indicating help from female
friends with this problem and as Venus is in Aquarius the ruler of which
can be an indicator of homosexuality and I can see that too. Libra is on
the fifth, so maybe he is a little effeminate. In any case it shows what
an excellent artist he is. Again the Virgo IC shows good home life and
he's a perfectionist when it comes to taking care of the home and is
concerned with his family's well-being and work status. Venus' ruler of
Taurus is in the 8th so how he makes money is with his voice which he
inherited naturally. He has a stellium in both Pisces and Sage so he is
very much an actor, artist and traveler. Venus in the 8th trines Pluto in
the 4th: art is his nature and he had a lovely home life growing up. Aries
on the 11th cusp: surrounded by self-starters but some may be envious. Leo
on the 3rd house cusp: surrounded by an artistic family.

High energy: Moon cnj Mars close to an angle, though not in an angular
sign. Sun in the 8th house of energy. Also, there are angular planets in
Scorpio, the sign of raw energy. Angular Jupiter, the 8th house ruler,
makes for yet more energy. Very physical types of entertainers usually
have strong Scorpio placements; for instance Elvis is generally thought to
have a Scorpio asc. Angular Jupiter and asc ruler conjunct Rahu makes him flamboyant,
famous, and highly visible. 9th and 10th ruler (Saturn; a first rate
Yogakaraka for Taurus asc) in first house aspected by Jupiter is an
excellent indicator of fame and popularity.
Many features of the chart do point to a preference for sexual
relationships with other men. Moon/Mars asps often show up in gay male
charts. I don't know why, but I suspect that the dynamic of that aspect
may be "competition with women", as I've known women with it who
are seriously competitive with other women. It also may have to do with
the Moon softening Mars' pure masculine energy. Of course there need to be
confluent indications for any one trait. Venus aspected by Saturn and
Pluto (Grand trine in natal; close cnj in 7th in navamsa) is another
indication, and Venus cnj Rahu is yet another. I would expect him to have
lovers in high places or positions of power who are likely to be wealthy,
because of Jupiter's placement in the 7th of both charts. They are likely
to be very materially generous with him as that Jupiter rules 8th. I do
think that he has attachments to women, too, whether or not they are
romantic and physical I don't know. The reason I say that is that his
seventh house ruler is conjunct the Moon.
RM's voice is important because the ruler of his second house (of
voice) is angular and conjunct Jupiter.
Now. The one concern I would have for RM is that he not
burn out at a relatively young age. He needs to take care of himself and
stay away from reckless pursuits or anything that would expend humongous
amounts of energy all at one time. this is because of the emphasis on
Mars, 8th house, and the sign Scorpio ... also Rahu's cnj to the asc ruler
... and... Mercury/Neptune aspects do not always indicate the best
judgment and common sense. Rahu can lift one to the heights of fame and
glory and then dash one into the depths of ignominy. Perhaps that
excellent Saturn in the first (though not close to the asc) will be his
best friend.

Having spent 95% of my adult Capricorn Life in the media I
can honestly say that Ricky Martin is the product of a magnificent
campaign of hype, etc. His chart is interesting, no doubt, for the Kite
which integrates the power of the illusion he is able to control. His
statement about his sexuality reflects a subtle manipulation. Ignore it!
The masses will eat him alive in the end. Look at the retrograde Saturn in
opposition to Neptune. Unless he develops a solid philosophy and spiritual
life to replace all of the media hype he will fade from the scene. He is
compensating for the need of a solid father figure. The fame and fortune
bit will wear thin when he realizes that it is no substitute for a real
backbone, which only a strong father figure could impart.. His search for
a father will lead him through the institutional phase of the process and
finally to his own undoing when he discovers a meaningful spiritual life.
When he becomes the parent he yearns for (instead of projecting his need
on all the wrong people) he will avoid some of the more horrific results
of having an opposition as strong as the Saturn (retrograde) / Neptune.
The nature of the business requires him to use the Kite (Saturn,
retrograde opposed Neptune sextile Pluto trine Venus) to project the image
the public demands of his type of entertainment. However the level of his
involvement in alcohol and drugs will determine just how deep an
illusion/delusion he creates. His detachment, his desire to be free from
all external control will carry him only so far with the public. The
public always demands its pound of flesh for the fortune it bestows. The
nature of a Venus/Pluto trine can be very difficult in it's negative
manifestation and very difficult to break out of because it requires the
release of genuine emotion in order to accomplish the break and not
a contrived act. My questions are always: What spirit is operating this
chart and how is it going to get out of this dilemma? I would like to
further know: How can Ric best avoid the snare built into the subtle power
of this mutable kite without the spiritual training and discipline he
doesn't seem to have acquired along the way?
Compare this chart with the chart of Elvis and ask
yourself if Ric has a chance to last as long as The King?
Capricorn's both yet the difference is day and night and the entertainment
business is the same grinding stone. Whew! Better to be an astrologer in
obscurity than that fate.

1. Ricky has only one personal planet in Fire - Mercury in Sagittarius
-- which however rules his Ascendant from the opposite angle. Note that
his Mercury at 12 Sagittarius (of the "hip" sign) also sits
exactly on "Elvis-the-Pelvis" Presley's Ascendant. Also, Jupiter
(dispositor of Ricky's Mercury) is in its own sign Sagittarius right on
Ricky's Descendant.
His performances are "sexy, high octane events" not just
because Uranus is his least aspected planet, but also as the Uranus
Discovery Degree of 24 Gemini conjuncts his Ascendant (in the lively First
House) and is aspected by all of the fire planets and both of the
luminaries (the Sun being both a fire planet and luminary). The 24 Gemini
degree is opposed by Ricky's Sun and Jupiter (and their midpoint) and
squared by the Mars/Moon conjunction (on his Midheaven). All these hard
aspects form a T-square (24 Gem - Jupiter/Sun - Mars/Moon) which along
with Pluto in aspect to all (and the 24 Gemini degree forming the handle
of a cradle when Pluto is included), gives him a lot of "kick."
2. The year 1999 (age 27-28) was such a "breakaway" year for
Ricky because (a) Solar Arc progressed Neptune (ruler of his MC) conjoined
his natal Sun, (b) transiting Pluto conjunct the midpoint between the
rulers of his Ascendant (Mercury) and Descendant (Jupiter), and (c) his SA
progressed Ascendant reached 18 Cancer - the Pluto discovery degree that
is associated with big money and "breaking away" from the fold.
Also, consider his Saturn return in light of my next point…
3. His chart reveals his comments about his ambiguous sexuality:
"I can't get hung up (Saturn) on people whose lives are that empty
(opposite Neptune). I'm an artist (Venus natally sextile Neptune and trine
Saturn, and Venus progressed to T-square them at their midpoint) and you
can fantasize about me however you want (Venus ruling 12th House of
imagination)." So many people fantasize about his sexuality because
both luminaries (the public) aspect his Saturn which has the above
Venus/Neptune aspects and rules his 8th House of sex. Thanks Ricky, I'll
join the others and fantasize about you to my heart's content!

1. high octane performances....I do not subscribe to the
idea of 'personal planets', because all of the planets register on us
personally....I also note that Mars and the Moon are near the top of the
chart, and also near the first point of Aries....Ricky is very
physically-natured, and obviously believes in using his body in some
physical way to earn a living and get the things he needs....Mars is the aggressive
man....being conjunct the Moon, Mars will reflect his feelings and
emotions in some way, and he can be very protective of himself and his
private life....professionally, he can easily go it alone...both are in
trine to Neptune in Sagittarius and opposite Pluto in Libra....he is
guided by deep emotional yearnings and inner voices, so he is very
independent and original....believes in taking action to live the life he
wants to live....do what he needs for himself....also Mars-Moon is in the
middle of a double-sextile, with Venus in Aquarius and Saturn in
Gemini....he is a brilliant organizer who can think on his feet....lives
for the moment and is very spontaneous....but one voice we cannot ignore
regarding personality and professional life is the Sun....which does not
sit well at all in relation to the Moon and Mars....the Sun here is in
Capricorn, squaring Pluto and the Moon....some big part of him does not
like the instability of his life and wants a secure and organized
niche...actually needs to be the 'one', the center of all action....and is
also very self-conscious about how he appears....so it would not surprise
me if his every stage appearance was orchestrated and planned right down
to the last hip-swivel....
2. 1999.....I note that Pluto that year was approaching
his Mercury in Sagittarius...at the same time Uranus was in mid-Aquarius
sextile to his own Uranus in Libra....with Neptune in Aquarius just
finishing a trine to his Gemini Saturn....all this Uranus-Aquarius
activity suggests sudden windfalls....sudden ideas...catchy tunes and
obsessive crazes are both products of this....as is living a spontaneous
and unstable lifestyle...'la vida loca' ...:-)
3. sexuality...other than the Uranus-Aquarian tendencies
toward the odd and unusual in experiences....I note that Aquarius and
Venus are both in his 8th House....the 8th is sexual habits....this could
be where he explores his need to be a rebel...Aquarius is often repelled
by other's expectations....this is where he tries to do the opposite of
what 'everyone else does'....he is probably more likely to be bisexual
than just plain homosexual...because he would want more the new and the
different....Mars and Venus are on mutually good terms in this
chart....they are sextile...so he would be attracted to (and attractive
to) both sexes....he is indeed a very dynamic man...the problem is his
Capricorn Sun wants to box up all this energy into an organized and
structured life....but he rebels against his own limits...anyway with
Venus in Aquarius one thing that plagues his relationships is the question
of 'stay or go'....he tends to want varying sexual experiences with
varying partners....dating frenzies....he is liable to get into a number
of paternity dilemmas if he is not careful....

Just a few comments on Ricky's sexy and high octane performances with only
one personal planet in Tropical fire. I've been writing a series of
articles on the Sidereal (Jyotish or Vedic) signs for ISAR's magazine, The
International Astrologer. The sidereal signs have been badly
misinterpreted because almost everyone tries to make them like the
tropical signs of the same name.
The Tropical and sidereal signs overlap by 5-7 degrees. One of the
important points I make in relation to the signs of the zodiac is that if
only one zodiac is valid, then in the tropical zodiac the last degrees of
signs will behave like the following tropical sign. If the sidereal zodiac
is valid, then the early degrees of sidereal signs will act like the
preceding sign.
In the sidereal zodiac it's the Cancer triplicity of signs (Cancer,
Scorpio, Pisces) that are the "high octane," high energy signs
that are called "fiery" in the tropical zodiac.
So ... Ricky has a Moon-Mars conjunction at the top of his chart in the
public 10th, but it's in reclusive tropical Pisces – in the last
degrees. But if we change this conjunction to the sidereal zodiac, it's
still in Pisces (which behaves exactly like tropical Aries), so we have a
very "fiery" conjunction, which shows up to a "T" in
Ricky's performances.
Jupiter is in the degree exactly opposing
Ricky's Ascendant degree. Read that as Jupiter in tropical Sagittarius,
and you have a perfect picture of Ricky's high energy and appeal to
millions of fans. Ricky's chart is one of those that gives strong support
to the characteristics of sidereal signs. Moon/Mars in tropical Pisces and
Jupiter in tropical Scorpio just won't cut it.
Also, in the navamsa chart Ricky has Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and Pluto
all in sidereal Pisces. These four planets will pile up on top of his
natal Moon-Mars, giving a whopping dose of tropical Aries type energy.
There you have it – the fiery energy!
One additional comment about Ricky's sexuality: Chad Henry has written
here that Ricky has been known to openly date men. Ricky does have the
homosexual signature noted in ancient texts: a particular interaction of
Venus-Mercury-Saturn and their signs. In Ricky's sidereal chart Venus and
Saturn exchange signs (Taurus/Capricorn) and Mercury is in the 7th house
of relationships. Since Saturn is in the 1st (sign), it aspects Mercury in
7.
But we need more than the natal chart, and that's why we look to the
navamsa chart, which traditionally shows relationships. In the navamsa
Ricky has Venus and Saturn in the same degree of Pisces in the 7th house.
These are squared by Mercury in Sag in the 4th, and Mercury's dispositor,
Jupiter, is in the 7th with Saturn and Venus. Ricky has two other
indications of being homosexual that I've seen in many gay charts which
have some of the other basic patterns: Venus with the nodes (natally Rahu
is with Venus) and Pluto in the 7th.(Ricky has Pluto in the navamsa 7th.)
Mars-Moon aspects also show up very frequently in gay charts, but of
course many people have Moon-Mars aspects who aren't gay.

I don't watch tv, but I did happen to see a piece of a
music video on him, that was like some sort of soft porn show. I guess
that sums up the music biz today. Oh well... If this is a correct time, I
think the importance of Jupiter on the descendant is significant. I have
heard the tightest aspect, and the planet most closely aligned with one of
the axises is very good at indicating a lot of tendencies, and
characteristics in an individual. The whole chart is leaning to the
relationship zone, with the exception of Saturn. Also, the t square with
the Sun at the apex is within a very dynamic pattern involving Mars/Moon
and Pluto. That's a lot of sexual energy locked up, and it has to go
somewhere. The music/porn/entertainment biz is a good outlet. As far as
what his sexual orientation is concerned, who cares? I agree with him!
Okay, he has some placements that suggest the unusual. Uranus trine the
ascendant in the 5th. Venus in Aquarius in the 8th. Hummm.
About the success in 99 ... I have only looked at the
secondary progs. Not enough astrologers seem to focus on them, but to do
proper analysis of a chart one needs to do both progs and transits.
Anyway, The prog Sun and Saturn form a trine with one another at 29Cap,
and 29 Taurus respectively, which line up beautifully with his Pisces Moon
in the 10th at 29%. The prog moon is also moving through Pisces, which
adds to his already present ability to create an imaginary dreamlike aura
in his 'performances'. Okay, I will throw in some transits. Jupiter was in
Pisces at the beginning of the year, which would be probably suggest a
favourable factor in his career. Saturn is in Taurus his solar 5th, which
might incline him to work on his creative abilities more. He is an actor,
after all, with his Sun at the top of the t square, but perhaps not in the
standard way we think of actors. Music's mystery has been hijacked
somewhat, in this age of mega stardom madness. What a pity.

As a palmist, I have a contribution to make concerning the
sexuality of Ricky Martin. You have cited rickymartin.com.
At that site is an excellent picture of the outstretched palm of Ricky
Martin. At the base of his palm is a definite "widow's peak".
These particular lines denote problems w/sexuality: i.e. impotence,
premature ejaculation, unable to be fulfilled, confused in sexuality
identity.
You note that he left home at a very young age. Most
likely he was able to happily leave home, so that he could explore his
sexual self.
Tony Louis' commentary is the most comprehensive and
easy-to-understand thesis of all contributors.

Ricky Martin's Vedic / sidereal chart clearly reflects his
fame and success in the form of 4 powerful Raja (royal) yogas involving
the lords of his 1st, 5th, 9th and 10th houses. Saturn is at the core of
this dynamic, and by itself makes a royal yoga as lord of the 9th and 10th
houses (the two best houses), placed in the 1st where it has the maximum
effect. It also forms two more powerful royal yogas as 9th and 10th lord
combining with 1st lord Venus, planet of love and sensuality, sitting in
the 9th. These yogas are formed because these two planets exchange houses,
and is very strong because they are mutual great friends. Saturn also
forms another very strong royal yoga by mutually aspecting 5th lord
Mercury (a friend of Saturn) in the 7th. When Mercury, Venus and Saturn
start forming powerful yogas together, the results are often very dramatic
(see, for example, Albert Einstein). What makes these yogas super potent
is the fact that the planets involved are mutually friendly to each other,
connect with the 1st house, rule the best houses, and are placed in the
angular or trinal houses.
Not surprisingly, his 1st lord is Venus, planet of love
and sensuality, very strong in a good house in a friends sign. As 10th
(career) lord in the 1st (native), Saturn indicates that RMs career is a
consequence of who he is, a combination that has shown up quite frequently
in the charts of famous people presented on AstroDatabank. This is
especially true for Saturn as it makes an aspect back into the 10th house
from the 1st. The intense sensuality and sexuality he projects come from
the exchange of houses Saturn has with sensual, sexy Venus, and from the
aspects the 1st house and Saturn receive from Mercury and Jupiter in
Scorpio, sign of sexual power. And Jupiter's power is enhanced even
further because he is in the 8th sign (Scorpio) and is at the same time
lord of the 8th house (Sagittarius).
The 3rd house rules performing, and there is a lot going
on here. This house is aspected by Saturn from the 1st, by 1st lord Venus
from the 9th and by sexually charged Jupiter from the 7th in Scorpio.
Venus and Jupiter contribute the sensuality and sexual power, and Saturn
and Venus link the 3rd house directly to the 1st and 1st lord. In addition
to this, 3rd lord Moon is energized by close association (conjunction)
with fiery Mars. And to make this combination even more potent, Mars
exchanges houses with Jupiter in Scorpio, and both Mars and Moon in the
11th house are aspected by Jupiter from Scorpio.
The success he has had in the last few years is clearly
indicated in his Vimshottari Dashas or life cycles. From October 1998 to
November 2000 he was in a Mercury - Jupiter cycle, and from then till July
2003 he is in Mercury - Saturn, the very planets which are the crux of his
fame and success.
As to the speculation about his sexual orientation, the
1st house - 7th house mutual aspects and yogas indicate a very powerful
sexual dynamic in his life. The 7th house can also represent others in
general – i.e. the public, so it is not surprising that it has
become an issue for many of his fans. And as a consequence of the Venus -
Saturn exchange, an unusual sexual orientation, maybe even bisexuality, is
not beyond the range of possibility.

Hi Lois:
Why do you say Ricky Martin has no personal planets in
Fire?
His mercury is in Sag, which is fire. The fact that it's in a stellium
accentuates that I should think.
Maybe this is just a typo?
Hope all is well.

Hi Rowena,
It is my mistake. Thanks for catching the typo. I've
changed the question to, "Ricky has one personal planet in fire. What
makes his performances such sexy, high octane events?" The stellium
is certainly a big part of the answer.

1. Personal Fire planets aren't the only indicator of "sexy, high
octane" performances. The Moon conjunct Mars creates a lot of fire
and Mars opposing Pluto is also very combustible. Jupiter in fire exactly
opposing the Ascendant also helps and the Mercury in Sagittarius is the
ruler of the Ascendant and unaspected in fire. The South Node in Leo would
suggest that he came in with lots of "fire" from past life
developments (which might explain why he got into commercials and school
plays at six years of age.) Uranus in the 5th house of fire trining the
Ascendant is also an indicator of "fire" energy. There's also a
Grand Trine in Air to fan all that fire and the Pluto of that trine
creates a Kite pattern with the opposition to the Moon/Mars conjunction.
If you look at the declinations, the parallel of the Sun and Jupiter would
also suggest a bit of grandiose fire.
2. In 1999 the Progressed Sun entered Aquarius and activated the Venus
in the 8th which is part of his Grand Trine in Air. At the same time his
Progressed Moon conjuncted his natal Moon/Mars conjunction and activated
the Kite pattern formed with the Grand Trine. That's a huge amount of
energy . . . .enough to put him on the cover of Time magazine in May of
1999. The year before (July 1998) when Jupiter hit that same point (28-29
Pisces) he sang the theme song for the World Soccer Cup and it was
estimated that this was viewed by close to a billion people in 187
countries of the world (and almost immediately his Cup of Life single
became #1 on the charts in over 30 Countries) At the time transiting
Neptune was conjunct his Venus in the 8th and again activating that very
powerful Grand Trine.
3. This man is a dynamo of energy that I think everyone experiences in
their own way. For many it's just raw sexuality; for others it's
exhilarating life force that's much more enlivening that mere sexuality.
But to each their own, in whatever way they care to receive and translate
it. He doesn't seem to care how it's interpreted and with Saturn in his
12th and ruling his 8th I would guess that he doesn't want to be defined
in any kind of preconceived way (like gay, straight, celibate, or
whatever).

1. What makes his performances such sexy high-octane etc.?
For starters, Ricky's ascendant, Gemini, is ruled by Mercury in
Sagittarius, a Fire sign, and is part of an Air grand trine – great
natural talent for communication. He communicates in a fiery and
passionate manner (and an international one – Sag being the natural
ruler of the 9th). Jupiter in Sagittarius is the final dispositor of the
chart, as well as the Oriental planet – and Sagittarius is on his 7th
cusp – a house of fame, along with the 10th. The entire top note of his
chart is Fire. Mercury is also widely conjunct Jupiter in the 7th, which
expands the Fire that he projects through his natural Grand Trine talents
for communication with a Fiery significator. (Saturn in his Grand Trine,
at 00 Gemini, is disposited by Mercury in Sagittarius as well. Even though
his Grand Trine is in the watery houses of Endings, it has a square to his
7th house Sun in Capricorn, pulling the trine into the public eye.
One other note, which also spills over into the question
about his sexuality, is Venus trine Pluto and Saturn in this chart (the
Grand Trine) Venus trine Pluto greatly heightens the powers of his sex
appeal, and trine to hard-working, behind-the-scenes Saturn in the 12th
– he can work his moneymaker! There's much more of course, but this is
pretty good for starters.
2. Breakaway year? Well, different folks find different
things here, but Transiting Neptune, ruler of his MC, planet of glamour,
romance, music, film, and television, conjoined natal Venus, thus
activating Ricky's Grand Air Trine. Venus is considered fortunate and is a
money planet, and is in the 8th house of Other People's Money; Venus is
trine Pluto (the masses, as some would have it), natural ruler of the 8th
house, and empowering Venus even more. (Pluto is also conjunct the
"Aries Point"--00 of any Cardinal point which according to Hand,
Tyl, et al, can thrust certain planet-related behaviors into the forefront
of other people's awareness--Pluto in Libra at 00 Libra, although
generational here, throws the sex appeal, drive for money and power, into
the public's perception of Ricky. Ricky's Progressed Sun, ruler of his
third house of communications, was transiting his money 8th house, closing
in on a trine to natal Saturn, again, activating Ricky's Grand Trine.
Transiting Uranus, ruler of Ricky's 9th house of international focus, was
trine Natal Uranus (also dispositor of Venus). Transiting Saturn, ruler of
his 8th house of money, trined his Sun and Jupiter around Grammy time. Tr
Pluto, (again, part of his Grand Trine) made an exact square to Ricky's MC
at Grammy time (--a big career development). Tr Jupiter squared Ricky's
Sun on Grammy day; Solar Arc directed Jupiter squared the Moon/Pluto
midpoint. Transiting Jupiter squared Jupiter, squared his Ascendant, and
conjoined his natal Moon.
3. Ricky is clearly gay, both in his chart, but also this
fact is quickly corroborated by so many of the show people that have
worked with him through the years, for instance the Broadway gypsies in
Les Miz, which Ricky performed in for a while--Ricky was openly dating men
at the time, as his coworkers will attest. The chart so clearly
communicates an alternative (and somewhat closeted) sexuality. Venus and
Uranus (significator of homosexuality) in mutual reception, Venus in
Aquarius in the 8th house of sex, Uranus in Libra in the 5th house of
affairs, ruled by that same Venus in Aquarius; Saturn retrograde ruling
the 8th and closeted in the 12th yet trine Venus, with Pluto in Libra
(profound transformation in relationships) trining both Saturn and Pluto.
The ascendant is in the Aquarius decanate, so is co-ruled or disposited by
Uranus. It's a highly-sexed chart, by the looks of it. What might cause
others to fantasize about his sexuality, or else wonder about it, first,
might be his Moon-Mars conjunction in Pisces in the 10th house, along with
his Pisces Midheaven – trined by Neptune. Glamour, mystery and charisma
– and Pisces is a double-bodied sign as well – Ricky projects
sensitivity and androgyny despite his macho posturing. Since Pisces is the
sign of fantasy, and Mars is one of the significators of male sexuality in
the chart, and these elements are posited in the highly visible 10th
house, people are naturally going to speculate. Natal Neptune is also at
the midpoint of Pluto/North Node, which is going to project a sense of
mystery or deception to the public.

I have recast Ricky Martin's chart in the Placidus house system, and
the answers are based on that.
1. The statement that he's the "sexiest hip-swiveler since Elvis
Presley" can be attributed to his Moon/Mars conjunction in the last,
critical, degrees of Pisces in the career 10th house. This conjunction
makes an out-of-sign sextile to the Venus singleton (only fixed sign) in
Aquarius in the erotic 8th house, and an out-of-sign trine to Neptune
(10th house ruler) in Sagittarius in the 6th house of work/job. The 6th
is, in turn, ruled by a Pluto singleton (only personal house) in the 4th.
That's pretty "hot stuff!" The public (10th house and Moon) can
project all kinds of sexual fantasies on him!
His Ascendant ruler Mercury is in the 6th along with the Mid-Heaven
ruler Neptune, both are in Sagittarius and disposed of by Jupiter, strong
in its own sign, in the 7th house of public relations and partners. The
combo of ASC & MC rulers in the fire sign Sagittarius, plus all of the
above aspects equates to performances that are "sexy, high
octane" events.
2. The year 1999 was such a breakaway one for him for reasons of
powerful aspects from both transiting and progressed planets to his natal
planets. The progressed Sun came to a conjunction with natal Venus in
Aquarius in the 8th, while transiting Neptune made a station to go direct
just 24 minutes shy of an exact conjunction to natal Venus and progressed
Sun -- giving a highly inflated erotically romantic image and musical
performances. Natal Venus was even more erotic and universally magically
attractive! The progressed Moon was in Pisces and went over the natal
Moon/Mars conjunction, while transiting Jupiter also went over the
Moon/Mars, bringing big public acclaim. Transiting Pluto was approaching a
conjunction with natal Mercury, empowering both him personally and his
work.
3. What makes so many people fantasize about his sexuality? Much of
this is answered in the response to question #1. With Moon/Mars conjunct
in Pisces in the 10th along with the above mentioned aspects to Venus and
Neptune it is all too easy for people in general (male and female, young
and old) to fantasize about him and his sexuality. However, with the ruler
of the 8th, Saturn, in the 12th, he is not going to say what, if any or
all, his sexual orientation(s) is (or are). Saturn opposes Neptune; so,
he'll leave it to your imagination! He could be a monk for all we know! Or
have a harem of girls, boys, sheep, angels and aliens!
Thanks for the chart and bio.

I do not care whether Ricky is gay or not. Usually people who move like
he does is a magnet and I get turned on just watching him. Most people
just do not admit when pure sexuality is standing right in front of them.
Whether it is Brad Pitt or Matt Damon or Ricky, the universe simply puts
together a package that makes our Neptune revolve and most of us know that
we are jealous of that package. Like Elvis it may ruin him for ordinary
life.
Ah those Cubans!

1) sexiness: venus/north node in 8th house trine pluto...yep,
that'll do it. magnetic and alluring.
2) i would have to do a transit chart for this one.
3) venus in aquarius maybe, gemini rising, in fact the whole grand
trine in air signs could make someone appealing to a variety of
people. especially gemini, which can mutate to fit anyone's ideals.

To add to some of the aforementioned things about this chart are that:
* The Aries point is added to the mix of the Sun-Mars-Moon-Pluto
T-Square, bringing some fire to the chart
* Venus and Uranus are in mutual reception adding both to the sex
appeal and the sexuality issue

You keep saying he has no personal planets in fire, but the chart shows a
Mercury in Sagittarius. You don't need fire to electrify, the combination
of his Gemini ascendant and the Pisces stellium could do the trick,
especially since he is grounded in the performer's earth sign, Capricorn.
And, for the record, the gay indicators are all there.

Right you are! See Mark McDonough's comment, below. -- webmaster
1 …"sexiest hip-swiveler since Elvis Presley." …. What makes
his performances such sexy, high octane events?
Ricky has Pisces, the sign of music and dance, on the Midheaven. The
high-energy, libidinal planet Mars conjoins the emotive Moon in the 10th
of career. This Moon/Mars conjunction is further energized by an
opposition from intense Pluto and a square from his Capricorn Sun. The
T-square formation gives tremendous drive and ambition that he focuses
into his performances. In addition, fiery and expansive Jupiter is in high
focus conjunct his Descendant on the horizon, giving wide public appeal.
2. What made 1999 such a breakaway year for him?
In 1999 Jupiter, the Greater Benefic, was transiting Ricky’s 10th
house of career and reputation, bringing him success and honors. In
addition, in 1999 his secondary progressed sun moved from Capricorn into
Aquarius. The year in which the progressed Sun changes signs is typically
one of great importance to the individual. His tropical non-precessed
Solar Return for 1999 set for his residence in Miami takes place during
his Mercury return, with both natal and return Mercury conjunct the
Ascendant of the return chart. This marks 1999 as a highly significant
year because Mercury rules the Ascendant of his natal chart. In the return
chart, he also has the Sun in the first house and Jupiter, ruling the
return Ascendant, conjunct the I.C.. All these factors in the return chart
point to 1999 being a very fortunate year in which his personality shines
and he can get his message across to others.
3. …whether Ricky is gay. So what is it about this guy that makes so
many people fantasize about his sexuality?
Macho Mars conjoins the feminine Moon in Ricky’s very public 10th
house, putting his sexuality and emotionality on public display. His Sun
lies in Capricorn, so Saturn disposits his sun and is a marker of his core
identity. Saturn also rules his 8th house of sexuality. With Saturn
retrograde in his 12th house of secrets, Ricky comes across as someone who
is very private and who may have a sexual secret to hide. Put another way,
heavy Saturn rules his sexuality and occupies his 12th house of sorrow and
self-restriction – he feels burdened by something in his sexual life.
Nebulous Neptune loosely conjoins his Ascendant-ruler Mercury and opposes
Saturn, indicating that he has difficulty giving form to his sense of
identity.
With the sexual planets, Mars and Pluto, in opposition and in a
T-square with his Sun, Ricky is a man of tremendous sexual energy that is
wound very tight. The conflictual nature of squares and oppositions
suggests that he himself has some discomfort with his own sexuality.
Androgynous Gemini rising makes people wonder about his sexual
orientation. Uranus close to the 5th house cusp suggests there is
something unusual about what turns him on and how he gets his kicks. My
impression from studying this chart is that Ricky most likely is gay but
is conflicted about his sexuality and wants to keep his personal life very
private (retrograde Saturn in the 12th). The fact that the Mars/Pluto
opposition occurs across the 4th – 10th axis suggests that his conflicts
about sexuality have to do with family and societal norms or values. I
have learned from counseling gay Puerto Rican men with similar charts that
the high premium placed on machismo by Latino culture frequently makes
coming out as gay a matter of great shame before one’s family and
society.

If Mercury and Jupiter in Sagittarius do not qualify as "personal
planets in fire" (see question one) then I've been learning the wrong
astrology all these years.

Thanks for catching the typo, Chad. The question should have been,
"Ricky has one personal planet in fire. What makes his performances
such sexy, high octane events?" Mercury is indeed a personal planet
in fire. I am not, however, inclined to call Jupiter a personal planet.
Everyone in Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Oct, Nov, Dec 1971 and Jan, Aug, Sep 1972
had Jupiter in Sagittarius. I acknowledge that some folks would consider
Jupiter and Saturn personal planets. I've even met people who consider
Pluto to be a personal planet. If Pluto is conjunct one's Moon it
certainly seems to become personal. I guess that's the point. The further
out the planet, the more justification required to make it personal. As
Rowena Wall points out, in Ricky's case Mercury is part of a stellium.

Your questions regards Ricky Martin's natal chart prompted my interest (As
well as his stage "Name" - ours!)
# 1 "What makes his performances such sexy, high octane
events?"
# 2 "What made 1999 such a breakaway year for him?"
# 3 (a) "Is the long-standing question about his preferences
valid, or his responses very valid. And also: (b) "What is it about
this guy that makes so many people fantasize about his sexuality?"
Lets start with his natal gifts, especially those wonderful 'tools'
(Venus connected to his North Node) in his 8th house of Occult Research,
Shared Values, Sex if you like, ruled by his Sun-Sign in his 7th house
(Objectivity, Partners) of his typical life experiences and where he will
eventually give structure (Capricorn) to his Career, Reputation, Honor

To say nothing of the infinite potentials of that beautiful Grand Trine
of Venus (8th), Trine retrograde Saturn (12th), expressing itself first,
of its Aquarius Qualities, (see its typical-Uranus in the Sun's natural
5th house, area of entertainment and the Legacy he will eventually

quintile is the instinctive, subjective, unconscious stage of the process
of creative transformation though Ricky's individualization of the new
evolutionary purpose. (The prior birth, Universal, Evolutionary Intent of
the Conjunction with the transiting Sun....see the Sabian Degree). The
meaning of Ricky's life becomes highly individualistic and specific. The
new individualized purpose is nearly ready for externalized action
although it is still somewhat of a struggle to do so because of the pull
of the past. (Crescent Phase Relationship) The Charts which would address
this factor would be the New Phase and the Semi-Square 45 degree open of
this Crescent Phase. And of course all the Minor aspects involved that
address his becoming of his being. They are ALL valid measures.
Even his first house Earth symbol @ Cancer 2:24' addresses your # 1, +
# 3-a&b questions, but our Colleagues seldom use it or understand it's
unique qualities of always 180 degree Cyclic FULL =
"Revelations". Here again the Sabians are an invaluable insight.
(For us Geocentric buffs!, That Earth is Us!)
That 6th house Neptune Trine 10th house Mars opposition to 4th Pluto is
also a potential of his natal choices. Its the entire chart of course, but
these themes certainly reveal his possibilities. Ricky most likely already
has excellent counsel of his chart.
His responses to the # 2 question is most likely reflected in his
progressed and transiting symbolism at those times of his growth, as
reflected in his evolutionary intentions/potentials. That is reflected in
his natal Sun/Moon Phase, also Crescent "Struggles" to separate
from past objectives that are revealed in the New Moon @ Sagittarius

Ephemeris listings, date of birth)
The symbolism of Secondary Directions or so-called Progressed,
1998/1999 will reflex those "Breakaways" that you ask. Prog.
Moon passing over 10th House Prog & Natal Mars. Progressed 8th house
Sun Trine 11th house Saturn still retrograde and functioning as an
Aquarius Quality before reaching for the authority society grants us.

His progressed 6th house Neptune, trine his South Node, talents
inherited from the past. His Prog Venus as a 9th house Trine by his
Ascendant as the 1998 progressions began, promised that South Node Income,
etc., etc., etc.
Bottom-line for a response to question # 2, Progressions and his own
choices with his Free WILL! His gifts to all of us is much more than what
the general public can possibly find answers for. It will take a damn good
Astrologer, who might wish to predict what he may choose. Something I
would refuse to take away from him! He is a responsible, & successful,
"WILL". I'd guess!.

Question 1. Ricky has no personal planets in fire. What makes his
performances such sexy, high octane events?
Performance, per se, is a function of the audience. In other words it
is not only what you give them, but how they will receive you. Both are
represented by the 7th house.
Ricky Martin's chart is diurnal chart with the ruler of the 7th house
being Jupiter, a diurnal planet. Jupiter is not only dignified by sect,
but being in the correct hemisphere and in Sagittarius, is in the state
called Hayz - a powerful astrological signifier. To say nothing of the
fact that Jupiter rules Sagittarius. And to add to this quantity, the
Jupiter ruler of the 7th is virtually perfectly conjoined at the 7th house
cusp.
Question 2. What made 1999 such a breakaway year for him?
1. Neptune not only conjoined his Venus but took station on it. Neptune
is often associated with fame as it represents the 'projected fantasies'
of the audience.
2. Jupiter conjoined Martin's Moon, which natally is at the ultimate
critical degree of the zodiac: 29 Pisces. This would produce a
cross-energetic with the Neptune/Venus activation.
3. Uranus 'broke out of' his 8th house, the house of 'hidden actions',
signifying a part of the native's life coming out of a 'hidden' state.
Since the 9th house is the natural house of the media (communication
dissemination) this supports the activities of anyone attempting to become
well known. Natally, Uranus is in the 5th house, the house of personal
creativity, suggesting that the 'break out' would be in an area which
could be described as creative. This 5th house is additionally deposed by
Venus, once again reinforcing the Jupiter-Neptune energy as discussed in
points 1 and 2
Question 3. There is a long-standing question about whether Ricky is
gay. His response, "I can't get hung up on people whose lives are
that empty. I'm an artist and you can fantasize about me however you
want." So what is it about this guy that makes so many people
fantasize about his sexuality?
This chart has several quantities which attract this 'fantasizing'
activity. First of all, it is one of those rare charts where there is
within the chart two grand trines which are in sextile to each other
forming what is known as the "Star of David". Albeit that it is
an out of sign figure, the figure has great power, and indicates an
enormous amount of personal magnetism. Magnetism of this type usually
denotes a person who emanates an aura of powerful attraction, however that
attention may be focused.
The only rule I have ever learned which has any bearing on gay
sexuality is one which states that if the ruler of the 8th house cusp is
in easy aspect to the ruler of the 5th house cusp the native is likely to indulge
in homosexual activity. In this case the ruler of the 8th is Saturn
(posited in the 12th house of sexual fantasies) and the ruler of the 5th
is Venus (posited in the 8th house of sexuality). These two planets are in
trine.
They are also in configuration with Neptune - Saturn opposes Neptune
and Venus sextiles Neptune. This Neptune, along with the 'audience power'
Jupiter (see question #1) jointly depose the MC - or the most public point
in the chart. This would suggest a public concern with the possible
homosexual activity of this person.

From a Vedic perspective, Ricky's most critical point in his chart, the
ascendant degree (27 Taurus) receives an infusion of energy from Jupiter
in 27 degrees of sexy Scorpio, accounting for his sensual appeal. Mercury
(singing/speech) conjoins Jupiter in Scorpio for the creation of a sexual
superstar with hypnotic power over the masses.
In 1999, Ricky was in a once in a life-time period astrologically. He
was in the Dasa and subdasas of Mercury and Jupiter, the two prime players
in his chart because of their relationship to the all-important ascendant
point, the point at which the soul entered the earth, the connection
between the heavens and the earth plane so to speak.
Other factors in his chart include a "Raja Yoga" formed by
virtue of the ruler of the first house (Venus) being placed in the ninth.
The ninth is a special house of grace and fortune, and in Ricky's case the
ascendant house, the first is linked to that ninth house with the energy
of artistic Venus involved, making Venus (the arts, beauty) the avenue of
his success. The ninth also rules the spiritual path and Ricky has a
relationship with the guru Paramahamsa Yogananda.
Ricky's Venus is conjoined with the north node or Rahu as it is called
in Vedic. Rahu puts one in touch with collective trends and can have
hypnotic power. It is also a significator for material success and
recognition. Placed in the ninth house of grace and fortune, one would
expect some type of recognition for Venusian things.
In the navamsa chart, the ninth harmonic, which is a special chart used
for fine-tuning in Vedic, Venus is exalted in Pisces in the seventh. It is
combined with Jupiter in Venus. These placements speak both of Ricky's
artistic and spiritual power. Jupiter means guru in Sanskrit. Placed well
in the sign of Pisces and conjoined with Venus, this energy would easily
create spiritual depth.

1. Ricky has no personal planets in fire. What makes his
performances such sexy, high octane events?
Moon - Pluto; JFK Jr. had it, my brother has it, I've seen many, they
slip my mind at the moment, but any Moon-Pluto-Mars aspects are going to
light the sexual magnetism hugely.
2. What made 1999 such a breakaway year for him?
t Uranus trine n Uranus ... ? <g>
3. There is a long-standing question about whether Ricky is gay. His
response, "I can't get hung up on people whose lives are that empty.
I'm an artist and you can fantasize about me however you want." So
what is it about this guy that makes so many people fantasize about his
sexuality?
Natal Neptune trining that Pisces Moon and Mars.
And Pluto sq Sun would lend others to ask the question about his
sexuality. Uranus is also unaspected other than a sextile to Jupiter,
hardly a major aspect, so it could run away with the chart, and would add
additional data to why this year was such a *breakaway* year as he had his
transiting Uranus trine Natal Uranus.
As t Uranus is about to trine my Sun/MC/NN/Spica (21*;22*) I can't
wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Analyzing the chart from a Vedic viewpoint, his ascendant at 27 degrees
Taurus receives a direct hit from Jupiter at 27 degrees Scorpio in the 7th
house. (Oppositions in Vedic have a different meaning). Conjoined Jupiter
is Mercury, the planet of speech. This would account for his seductive
power and singing style due to the Scorpio energy.
There is a Raja yoga between houses 1 and 9 (the ruler of the first
house is in the 9th). This yoga creates success in life and has a
connotation of grace shining on the person. The ninth rules the spiritual
path and Ricky is a follower of Paramahansa Yogananda and speaks of the
importance of this in his life. Rahu in the ninth conjoined with Venus
would indicate material success in life and also grant a kind of hypnotic
power. Rahu puts one in touch with collective trends.
In 1999, Ricky was in Mercury-Jupiter Dasa-subdasa. This is significant
in the timing of his rise to superstardom as these are the two major
players affecting the most critical point of his connection with the
earth, the ascendant degree. So it is not surprising that the energies of
his chart were unlocked at that time.
In Ricky's navamsa chart, the ninth harmonic, Venus is exalted in
Pisces in the seventh house. Jupiter is placed there also in its own sign
of Pisces (Jupiter rules Pisces in Vedic). These placements reflect both
his artistic success and his relationship to the spiritual path. Jupiter
signifies the guru in Vedic. The navamsa chart is used for fine-tuning in
Vedic.
I am not sure how to read sexuality in the chart so won't comment on
that.

It's so tough to assess birthcharts which are rounded-off to the nearest
hour or half-hour.
Such is the case with Mr. Martin's chart; I suspect Moon in Aries,
though the 5:00 pm sharp chart above has him in the final seconds
of Moon in Pisces. For one thing, the combo of Gemini Rising with Moon in
Pisces tends towards a kind of instability I don't see in him. Also, his
sweet puppy warmth is more typical of Moon in Aries (despite standard stereotypes
about "Aries") than Moon in Pisces.
However, if he does have Moon in Pisces, he and Elvis share the
same apparently hip-swiveling Sun/Moon combo: Capricorn/Pisces Moon.
(Though Elvis had the more star-like Scorpio Rising [not
Sagittarius Rising]).
Why do people think Mr. Martin is gay??? Not even the heavens could
explain such a bizarre and clearly unfounded assertion... I mean - Rickey
Martin??? Gay??? What are you talking about?!?!?!?

The biggest stand out in Ricky's chart is Mars at 28 degrees 48 minutes
of Pisces, in the 10th House, in conjunction to his Piscean Moon.
This explains a lot of his sexual magnetism as both are within the Scorpio
decan. Is Ricky gay??? Nope! No way!
Venus is in Aquarius, the sign of Social Consciousness which means he
don't give a hoot what you think of him but...the Mars in Pisces, in the
Scorpio decan, says he's too passionate to be gay. He enjoys sex very
much, even though emotionally he might be "flippant". But, in my
opinion, he just enjoys keeping people guessing. It's all part of the fun
for Venus in Aquarius.
