I have several friends with Venus-Neptune aspects. They tend to be
relationship junkies. They also need to take care of someone. It's
interesting to note that Jane Fonda has a Venus-Neptune square. She
complained how needy Ted was! Well, that's what she was looking for.

This was an extremely interesting report. to me the significant
observation was the fact that the data was for surviving births as
the sun in earth to me would indicate a very strong ability to survive.
Also significant to me is the fact that to my knowledge France is an
earth sign (Virgo) and a major portion of its population is Taurean.
it would be interesting to study how this effects public opinion,
social trends and how this relates to every day transits.

Dear Didier,
I've read your study today and have some questions. Do you think,
and implicate in your comment, that the irregular division of Saturn
is due to the baby boom shortly after the Second World War?
Another question: does this Saturn position in the signs
astrologically mean that some mentality is dominant in France?

I think that the population patterns
are caused by mainly planet Moon conjunctions with Mars which occur
approx once a month. Hence it gives an appearance that population
patterns occur according to the Sun signs. I reason this as follows
-
The Moon is considered to be a feminine planet also it symbolizes
motherhood, pregnancy etc.
In Indian astrology, also Mars mainly affects birth of a child
because it involves a lot of bleeding characterized by Mars planet.

I think your research is very exciting and infinitely worthwhile.
I'm looking forward to learning more about astrology from this site.

I was startled to read Didier's study, as I made essentially
identical discoveries last year (2000), with one difference being
that I focused on degree-level rather than sign-level differences.
Clearly, as Didier published his work in 1999, the honor of first
detection is his, and my work should be regarded as independent
verification of his findings.
Didier does not discuss what led him in this direction. In my
case, I was impelled by two ideas: firstly, that contemporary
astrology is in the unique position of being able to compute entire
astrological populations, and that this is infinitely preferable to
the use of random 'control samples' for statistical testing;
secondly, I was interested in certain mundane applications of the
population or demographic approach, partly stemming from my work as
a social science researcher. These ideas, especially the latter,
have led me to certain further implications that Didier does not
discuss. In my study – so far unpublished except for a discussion of
the basic principles on ACT online, and a detailed explanation of
the calculations and findings on the Pan Planet list in 2000 – I
compared populations in New Zealand, England, Australia, the United
States, Fiji, and various other countries.
A striking feature evident in any census data is that there are
wide differences in the age composition from nation to nation; and
indeed these differences often extend to the various ethnic
groupings within the same nation. Some gender differences are also
apparent. Overall, this means that these various 'subpopulations'
are astrologically quite distinct. As a collective, United States
citizens really are slightly different from New Zealand citizens;
and both are sharply different from Fijian citizens.. Moreover, as
Didier's article makes clear, different age bands in the population
have highly distinctive characteristics that go well beyond the mere
sign positions of the so-called generational planets, owing to the
retrograding of the inner planets. When a number of these planets
– not infrequently – coincide within a particular element or
quadruplicity, we would expect far-reaching effects on the
'psychology' of that particular group. A case in point is the
so-called 'tweenie' group who were 8 to 12 year. In theory; I
foresaw two immediate applications of these findings. The first is
to ask 'how much of the population is effected by a given transiting
planet, especially at station?'. Because of the varying age
structures from nation to nation, within nations, within age bands,
and even between genders, the answers differ widely. In particular,
some transits activate a 'majority' response within the population,
whereas others activate a 'minority' response. Moreover, it is
possible to see that "age (and youth) is a resource":
populations with a substantial older grouping are significantly
linked to the more distant astrological past, and give that
particular population a quite different overall way of structuring
issues, conflicts, and debates than a nation or grouping with a
predominantly youthful population.
The second implication, for which I have produced and distributed
crude prototype software, is that it makes it possible to
investigate the "rapport" of any particular citizen with
his or her own country or cultural grouping. In a post on the Pan
Planet list last year, I was able to show that former President
Clinton had a most unusual rapport with citizens of the USA,
particularly centered on his Sun-degree. Moreover, the new President
Bush had a somewhat lesser but still strong rapport, but centered
most strongly on his Mars, whereas the luckless Gore had only an
average rapport with the population, but centered on his Saturn.
This work has yet to be validated with a proper and sufficiently
large study, but the ensuing portraits do appear convincing.
Respectively, they are an ex-President loaded with sheer charisma
and an experience of generally gaining approval throughout his life
for 'simply being himself', or doing whatever he *personally* feels
like doing; a new President known for his stern and forcefulness as
to the first idea I mentioned above – the notion of dispensing with
random control samples – it is clear that Didier and I have come to
identical conclusions that "it is essential these patterns and
findings should be taken into account" (Castille, 1999).
However, I advocate going one step further, and it is the approach I
have taken in all my recent statistical research. The use of random
control samples in, for example, the social sciences, is *solely*
because it is invariably impractical to measure the entire
population. However, measuring the entire population is far
preferable. Samples only *estimate* populations, and there is always
a degree of uncertainty because one's sample might, quite by chance,
not be a true reflection of the characteristics of that population.
This fact bedevils any statistical study, which is why replication
is always of critical importance in such research. In general,
initial statistical findings are merely suggestive, and never
conclusive.
However in astrology, at least as regards the *astrological*
characteristics of the population, we are able to compute the
population of interest to us directly, merely by applying
demographic corrections readily available from census data. As a
result, our statistical tests are able to be more
"statistically powerful" than those typifying other
research fields. Because of the computational power at our disposal,
even on a modest personal computer, I strongly advocate dispensing
with random control samples and availing ourselves of the more
powerful tests we can do as a result.

I
have studied many things along the lines of Castille but with more regard
to why instead of how many. The first decan of any sign produces clear
energy of the sign. The second and third decan of signs takes away from
both rulers and muddies the water somewhat. Retrograde planets that go
direct during a lifetime gather their strength while those that do not go
direct live in obscurity unless consciousness is raised. Planets in signs
with a smaller group like 50,000 tend to balance through all houses and
signs. 56 000 000 seems difficult to believe with birth records what they
are. Those of us on the front lines pick up on nuances daily but we do
appreciate having the results of others.
